At a time when the price of petrol dominates our thoughts, a Gold Coast group has developed a fuel-efficient boat that could revolutionise the industry.
Allura's James McCulloch has teamed with renowned multi-hull designer Bob Oram to produce a power catamaran capable of simply amazing efficiency.
Due to be displayed for the first time in this week's Gold Coast boat show, the Allura 55 will cruise at 20 knots using just 80 litres of fuel per hour and only 400hp of the available 750hp.
"We wanted to produce something quite exceptional. By combining the luxurious space of a catamaran with an efficient hull design we have achieved the performance of a top end sport cruiser and the efficiency of a much small vessel," said McCulloch.
The secret is the super-strong material which is nine times the strength of steel without the weight.
"We are very excited about the results. The Allura 55 is everything we had hoped for and more."
The Allura 55 is the first of a range of power catamarans in various shapes and sizes for a variety of seafarers and consumers.
The series will boast all the luxury and features of larger and far more expensive vessels making the seas more affordable for all.
